Ear Posting Methods

METHOD ONE

Materials

  • Surgical tape (breathable and stretchable)

  • Round cotton makeup pads, cut into half-moon shapes

  • Scissors

Directions

Place the support tube low inside the ear. Be careful not to place it too low into the ear canal or too high where it may fold the ear downward.

Using one 3–4 inch piece of tape, wrap the tape low around the ear to secure the support tube in place.

The Bridge

Using a 5½ inch piece of tape:

At the base of the ears, wrap one end of the tape around the first ear, starting from the inside of the head and moving outward around the ear.

Continue the tape across the top of the head to the second ear, wrapping around the ear and ending on the inside of the head. Secure the tape back onto itself.

Additional shorter pieces of tape may be added behind the ears to strengthen the bridge if needed.

Make sure the ears are standing upright before securing the bridge, otherwise the process may need to be repeated.

Some puppies may scratch at the tape initially but usually adjust quickly.

Replace the tape approximately every 5 days, or sooner if needed. Always use common sense and ensure the ears remain clean and dry.

METHOD TWO

Materials

  • Surgical tape

  • Moleskin

  • Scissors

Directions

Tape completely around the base of the ear, starting from the inside of the ear and wrapping toward the back.

Repeat this step slightly higher up on the ear in the opposite direction, overlapping the tape slightly.

Cut a piece of moleskin in the shape of the ear, slightly smaller than the ear itself.

Tape around the base of the ear while leaving a small amount of space. You should still be able to place a finger comfortably inside the ear opening.

Repeat the process on the other ear.

Bridge

Apply the bridge between the ears as described in Method One.
